Alongside her literary endeavors, she harbors a deep-seated love for photography. It was with great delight that we welcomed her aboard for this captivating Interview series. Immerse yourself in the enriching conversation below and discover the essence of Shefali’s creative journey.

  • Shefali, congratulations for your book and I’ve read a number of reviews stating that this book literally touches the chords of your emotions. Tell us what is ‘Blush’ for you?

Thank you so much. ‘Blush’ is a dream come true for me. I never could have imagined publishing a book some years ago. ‘Blush’ is a collection of poems about love, heart breaks and healing from those heart breaks and coming out stronger. It showcases how we go through different seasons of change in our lives.

  • I am curious about what you edit of this book. Was it something that didn’t set well with you or the editors?

‘Blush’ was carefully curated and everything that I wanted to keep in the book is in there. I self-published it so I didn’t have any restrictions on what I could keep and what I couldn’t.

  • What is poetry for you and how did you end up in this poetry world?

Poetry came naturally to me since I was in school. I was in Grade 8, I think, when I wrote my first poem. Since then it’s just been something that’s a part of me and something that I enjoy writing. But writing a book was something that I could never have imagined back then.

  • Shefali, you’ve also co-authored a book named ‘ Paint us Red’. What was your experience writing a book with other minds? Were there any differences in opinion?

‘Paint Us Red’ is a beautiful anthology and I was fortunate enough to be a part of it. It was Cassandra Mackenzie Wood’s concept. The book houses words written by some wonderful women who came together and shared their experiences in the form of poetry. There were no differences or issues at all during the whole process, in fact it was a great learning experience for me.

  • What are the most important magazines/apps for writers to subscribe to?

I don’t subscribe to any magazines. Social media has made it easy to read the works of such phenomenal writers. Instagram is the only app that I spend time on.

  • How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?

Publishing ‘Blush’ was a daunting experience. I learned a lot and I’m glad I took my time with the book and didn’t rush into publishing it. I hope to be more organized from the start for my second book. Everything was a bit chaotic in the initial stages of getting the manuscript ready for ‘Blush’.

  • Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?

I think anyone can be a writer. We all have it in us. We don’t always have to write with emotions. Consistency and practice go a long way, and the desire to be a writer. The best thrillers were written by writers who didn’t have any such emotions, hopefully!

  • Shefali, what books are you currently reading and what do you like about them?

I just finished ‘The Universe Has Your Back’ by Gabrielle Bernstein. It’s a wonderful book that teaches you about the Law of Attraction. I’ve been a big believer of the Law of Attraction since I read ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne in 2009. I’ve been able to manifest a lot of things in my life because of it. I’m currently reading ‘The Fury’ by Alex Michaelides. I love a good fast paced thriller.   And on the side I’m slowly making my way through ‘Autobiography Of A Yogi’ by Paramahansa Yogananda. It’s a bit heavy so I’m taking my time with this one.

  • What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?

One of my favorite books is ‘One True Loves’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I read it when it came out so many years ago and I plan to re-read it again sometime soon. I have to mention ‘The Silent Patient’ by Alex Michaelides, it’s not under-appreciated but I had to mention it since it’s one of my absolute favorites. ‘Wrong Place Wrong Time’ by Gillian McAllister is another brilliantly written book.

  • Any last words for our readers and aspiring writers?

Keep writing, keep dreaming. Don’t seek validation from others. Just write for yourself.

Ps :  Thanks Shefali for taking the time out and blessing us with your perspective and journey of curating a book. We really enjoyed this conversation with you. All the very best for your future endeavors. Cannot wait to read what else you’ve in store for us
